Installation
Get FilesDesk up and running on your Windows PC or Mac.
System Requirements

- Operating System: Windows 10/11 (64-bit)
- RAM: 4GB minimum, 8GB recommended
- Storage: 200MB free space
- Internet: Required for cloud AI features (optional for local AI)

Download & Install

Option 1: Microsoft Store (Recommended)
- Visit the Microsoft Store
- Click Get or Install
- FilesDesk will install automatically with auto-updates enabled
Option 2: Direct Download
- Visit filesdesk.app/download
- Click Get from Microsoft Store button
- Or download the
.exeinstaller directly from GitHub releases
Installation Steps (Direct Download)
- Run the Installer - Double-click the downloaded
.exefile. If prompted by Windows Defender, click "More info" → "Run anyway" - Accept License Agreement - Read and accept the terms of service
- Choose Installation Location - Default:
C:\Program Files\FilesDeskor select a custom location - Complete Installation - Click "Install" and wait for completion, then click "Finish" to launch FilesDesk
Download
- Visit filesdesk.app/download
- Click Download for Mac button
- The
.dmgfile will download to your Downloads folder
The current release is built for Intel Macs (x64). It runs on Apple Silicon Macs (M1/M2/M3/M4) via Rosetta 2, which macOS installs automatically when needed.
Installation Steps
- Open the DMG - Double-click
FilesDesk_1.0.1_x64.dmgin your Downloads folder - Drag to Applications - Drag the FilesDesk icon to the Applications folder
- First Launch - Open FilesDesk from Applications or Spotlight. If you see "FilesDesk cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer", go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → click Open Anyway
- Grant Permissions - Click Allow when prompted for file access
First Launch
On first launch, you'll need to:
- Create an account or sign in
- Configure your AI provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or local Ollama)
- Set up your first watch folder (optional)
Troubleshooting

"Windows protected your PC" message
Click "More info" then "Run anyway". This appears because the app is new and building trust with Microsoft SmartScreen.
Installation fails
Ensure you have administrator rights. Try running the installer as Administrator (right-click → Run as administrator). You may also need to disable antivirus temporarily during installation.
"App is damaged and can't be opened"
Open Terminal and run: xattr -cr /Applications/FilesDesk.app, then try opening the app again.
"FilesDesk wants to access files in your Documents folder"
Click Allow to enable file renaming functionality. You can manage permissions in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Files and Folders.
Rosetta 2 prompt (Apple Silicon)
If prompted to install Rosetta, click Install. This is a one-time setup for running Intel apps on Apple Silicon.
Uninstallation
- Windows
- macOS
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps
- Find FilesDesk and click Uninstall
- Follow the prompts to remove the application
- Open Finder → Applications
- Drag FilesDesk to the Trash
- Empty Trash to complete removal
To remove preferences:
rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/FilesDesk
rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.filesdesk.*
